Meet Shaina

Affordable housing can change our community. Shaina continues to see many of her hardworking peers struggling to find places to rent, let alone buy a home. Housing is indeed a crisis, especially for our generation. She is fortunate to have gotten into an affordable housing lottery with the County of Maui several years ago and wants to help others do the same. Her goal is to offer her voice to represent you while working with Maui County and developers to establish more affordable housing neighborhoods.

Many people in the community are concerned about the overreach of tourism in Maui. The pandemic and closure of tourism in 2020 gave everyone a glimpse of life without tourists. We know we need tourism, but many people want more balance. Imagine diversifying and growing other industries on Maui, including preserving Hawaii’s endemic species of plants and animals, agriculture, and small business. With you, her goal is to reduce the impact of external events and promote more robust, resilient growth over time.

Shaina was a student of Lahainaluna High School and graduate of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she balanced life as an intramural soccer player and outdoor enthusiast, volunteering as a hiking guide and Wilderness First Responder for the Outdoor Adventures hiking and backpacking group.
